About

Sidey started from a simple want, a personal site that doesn’t get in the way. A clean, quiet place to write and share things on the internet.

Not built to impress at first glance. No big hero sections or animated gradients. They are fun to set up for a while, but somewhere between configuring the integration or adjusting the layout and design, the writing stops.

Sidey is a response to that. Keep it small, direct, and just write.

Minimal by design

Sidey is a small project intentionally. Few files and little styling. The codebase is meant to be readable and easy to modify.

Typography first

The reading experience is the whole design. Sidey uses Geist for body text and Geist Mono for code block and inline snippets.

Expressive Code

Code blocks are powered by Expressive Code, a syntax highlighter built for clarity and readability. It supports code folding and line highlighting.

Flexoki color scheme

Sidey uses Flexoki, a color palette designed by Steph Ango. Inspired by ink and paper, it is warm, low-contrast, and easy on the eyes for long reading sessions. Available in both light and dark modes.

Image lightbox

Click any image in Sidey and it opens in a full-screen overlay, no extra setup needed. Either using the Figure component, which supports captions, or just a plain markdown image.

Everything else

Sidey also comes with a few smaller things that are good to have:

  • Single config file
  • Automatically open external links in new tab
  • RSS Feed, Sitemap, and a 404 page
